US Procures Hydra Rockets for PHL, Other Countries

The United States Department of Defense has announced that General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (General Dynamics – OTS) was awarded with USD44,353,964 worth of contract to supply Hydra rockets for foreign military sales to Afghanistan, Nigeria, Australia, Lebanon and Philippines.
“Work will be performed in Williston, Vermont, with an estimated completion date of March 31, 2021,” the Pentagon said in a statement released September 14.
“Fiscal 2010, 2016, 2017 and 2018 other procurement, Army; foreign military sales; and Department of Defense funds in the combined amount of $44,353,964 were obligated at the time of the award,” it added.
It noted that US Army Contracting Command, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, is the contracting activity.
Hydra is a family of 2.75-inch (70mm) rockets.
“These rockets include unitary and cargo warheads for use against point and area targets, providing the user a lethal and lightweight weapon system with multi-mission capability,” General Dynamics – OTS says in its website.
“Hydra-70 fires from the existing seven and 19-tube launchers and can be mounted on most rotary and fixed-wing aircraft,” it added.
