UK-based company WFEL announced on 10 September that it has completed deliveries of rapidly deployable military bridges, including an undisclosed number of Dry Support Bridges (DSBs) and Medium Girder Bridges (MGBs), as part of the Land 155 Enhanced Gap Crossing Capability Facilities Project for the Australian Army.

The deliveries, which began in February, included the handover of DSB-launching vehicles, which are configured on the 10×10 chassis of fully armoured Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles. Previous versions of DSB-launching vehicles have been configured on Oshkosh and Iveco vehicles.

The DSBs, which can carry more than 120 tonnes and spanning wet or dry gaps of up to 46 m, were handed over following extensive trials at the UK’s Millbrook Proving Ground designed to verify the system’s off-and-on-road capability.

According to WFEL, the bridges “will be used in combat situations providing rapidly deployable temporary infrastructure ensuring vital equipment and soldiers can navigate their way through the most challenging terrain”. They can also be used in times of crisis during natural disasters.
