According to South Korean embassy Kim Do Hyon, the Pohang class ship guard "Yeosu" will soon leave South Korea and arrive in Da Nang to hand over the Navy in late October.

The information was disclosed by Ambassador Kim Do Hyon at the National Day (03/10) and Korean Army Day (October 1) in Hanoi on October 4. Thus, as predicted, South Korea continued to provide assistance to the Vietnamese Navy with a second Pohang anti submarine warfare.

The Pohang ship which is about to be handed over to Korea, "Yeosu" has bearing number PCC-765 and one of the four Pohang Flight III class ships, Vietnam had previously received corvettes of this kind "Gimcheon" PCC-761 and is currently numbered "18".

The "Yeosu" PCC-765 was commissioned by the South Korean Navy on November 30, 1986, and was eliminated on December 27, 1977, and most of the Pohang Flight III class ships retired after Korea was "donated" to foreign countries, in which only Vietnam was handed over two were "Gimcheon" PCC-761 and "Yeosu" PCC-765.

However, when returning to Vietnam, South Korean warships will be dismantled partly by marine equipment and accompanying weapons, which may also be retained in accordance with the requirements of each country. they. For example, the "Gimcheon" PCC-761 is now the "018", it was fitted with only three of the original four guns, and the 324mm torpedo tube was removed. So, with the case of the "Yeosu" PCC-765, after its return to Vietnam, what would be its weapons system?

While still in the Navy's South Korean navy, the "Yeosu" PCC-765 carried a weapon system consisting of two 76mm OTO Melara turrets, two 40mm double-walled Nobong guns, and two light-duty three-torpedo launchers. Mk 32 324 mm. Among the weapons on the Mk 32 torpedo tubes would certainly be removed and replaced by a more suitable weapon.

Meanwhile, the turret system on the "Yeosu" PCC-765 is likely to be converted similarly to the "018" with the removal of a 76mm OTO Melara gun at the rear, replacing a 40mm In front of the superstructure with 20 mm Sea Vulcan six-bar.

It should be added that maintaining the combat readiness of the Pohang class poachers in Vietnam was a rather difficult task both technically and logically. We have not been armed with these weapons and have only recently been deployed on some ships.

This has been seen as a challenge, but also an opportunity for the Navy to be more proactive in deploying state-of-the-art weapons on the Pohang class vessels in the future instead of over-dependence. many from abroad. In the photo is a 76mm OTO Melara turret behind the back of the Pohang Flight III, which is likely to be removed when returning to Vietnam.

Thus, when it comes to Vietnam, the "Yeosu" PCC-765 will have the main weapon as a 76mm OTO Melara turret with a range of about 16-20km and can perform a wide variety of missions ranging from combat to the room.

Meanwhile the 40mm dual-piston Nobong cannon or the 20-mm Sea Vulcan cannon intended for anti-aircraft low-level anti-aircraft missile and anti-ship cruise missiles over 4,000m.

Fortunately for Vietnam, the South Korean-made Pohang ships were equipped with some electronic equipment such as the Marconi ST-1810 surface reconnaissance radar, the ST-1802 fire control system, The Radamec 2400 optical-focus camera with Signaal PHS-32 sonar attached.

With the arrival of the "Yeosu" PCC-765, Da Nang, the high probability of the ship being deployed to the 3rd Marine Command. Adopting an additional Pohang class will strengthen the fleet's capabilities Vietnamese Navy. At the same time, show good friendship between Korea and Vietnam.
