SINGAPORE - Indonesia will not cancel the deal on the acquisition of Russian fighter jets Su-35, despite the sanctions against the Russian Federation. The head of the republic’s defense ministry, Ryamizard Ryacudu, told the TASS correspondent on Saturday in the meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Defence Minister's Meeting and Dialogue Partners (ADMM plus) in Singapore.

"I will never cancel it. We are continuing the implementation of the contract," he said, responding to a question about the possibility of suspending agreements due to American sanctions.

Ryacudu also said that Jakarta is counting on getting Russian fighters as soon as possible, and deliveries will begin after the latest agreements between some Indonesian departments are completed.

"Indonesia is counting on early deliveries of fighters, we are interested in this," the head of the department stressed. According to him, "the parties have already begun to implement the agreements." At the same time, “I need to complete the last coordination issues, finalize some points with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Trade, this is connected with the procedure for paying the contract,” said the head of department. "From the Ministry of Defense, all issues have already been resolved," he added.

The signing of a contract with Indonesia for the supply of 11 Su-35 fighter jets became known early this year. The country has become the second buyer of these fighters after China. However, earlier, the Kommersant newspaper, citing sources, said that sending the Su-35 to Indonesia was being postponed due to pressure from the United States on Jakarta. According to the newspaper, the first aircraft were supposed to come to Indonesia by October, but this did not happen.

The Su-35 is a Russian multi-purpose super-maneuverable fighter of the 4 ++ generation, equipped with an onboard radar with a phased array radar, as well as thrust vector-controlled engines. It can reach speeds of up to 2.5 thousand km/h, its flight range reaches 3.4 thousand km, its combat radius is about 1.6 thousand km. The fighter is armed with a 30 mm cannon and has 12 hard points for bombs and missiles.
