Malaysia Approves Additional Defence Funds for 2019

The Malaysian House of Representatives (Dewan Rakyat) has approved additional funding for the country's 2019 defence budget. The additional funding takes Malaysia's military expenditure for the year to MY15.5 billion (USD3.78 billion).
The newly released defence funds - approved by the Dewan Rakyat earlier in April - amount to MYR226.1 million and were part of a larger supplementary budget for 2019. The Malaysian Ministry of Defence (MoD) had originally requested additional funding of about MYR851 million.
The funding increase comes after the MoD received additional funding of MYR1.4 billion in mid-November. This funding was reportedly allocated for maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) activity.
