The delivery of six brand new close-air support (CAS) A-29B Super Tucano aircraft for Philippine Air Force (PAF) is expected in fourth quarter of this year.

The Philippines, in fourth quarter 2017, chose Brazil-based Embraer to supply 6 CAS aircraft for PAF.

MaxDefense Philippines said that the six Embraer A-29B Super Tucano ordered by the Department of National Defense (DND) for PAF are expected to arrive by November 2019.

“The Super Tucano is the fruit of the PAF’s Close Air Support Aircraft Acquisition Project under the Horizon 1 phase of RAFPMP, and are expected to replace the 15th Strike Wing’s Aermacchi SF-260TP armed trainers,” MaxDefense said.

Embaer said the A-29 Super Tucano is a durable, versatile and powerful turboprop aircraft capable of carrying out a wide range of missions, even operating from unimproved runways.

“The Super Tucano is the best light attack aircraft in the market and we are confident that it will accomplish with excellence the missions it was selected for,” Jackson Schneider, president and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security said in 2017.
